Insurance
Individual therapists at Serpentine Path Counseling select which insurances they are credentialed with. Please visit each therapist's page to identify whether a particular therapist takes your insurance. At this time, none of our therapists are able to take Medicaid or Medicare. Therapists can provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance to obtain out-of-network benefits if applicable.
When you provide us with your insurance information, we do our best to determine in advance what your benefits are and what the cost of session will be. However, information provided to us by insurance companies has been unreliable in the past, and we are unable to guarantee accurate information until the first submitted insurance claim has been fully processed, which can sometimes take many weeks. If you are concerned or unsure of your benefits, please call your insurance company directly and inquire about cost of outpatient mental health services. We can provide you with an NPI number if you would like to check that our practice is in-network.
Self-Pay
Our individual therapists set their own self-pay rates according to experience in the field, training, cost of doing business, and cost of living. Rates will increase periodically to align with these factors. Therapists will give at least one month advanced notice of rates changing. Good Faith Estimates are available upon request.

If you decide not to use your insurance, you will be required to sign an "opt-out form" which affirms this decision. Signing this form means you cannot request that these sessions be billed to insurance after the fact, and you acknowledge that the cost of sessions will not count toward any relevant deductibles or out-of-pocket maximums.
Green Bottle Sliding Scale Method
At Serpentine Path Counseling we value and support therapy accessibility, economic equity, and the sustainability of therapeutic relationships. For these reasons we have decided to embrace a "Green Bottle Method" (created by Alexis J. Cunningfolk at https://www.wortsandcunning.com/blog/sliding-scale) for sliding scale slots. This does not apply to or impact insurance clients.

-
Tiny bottle (0%) for clients facing significant financial distress
-
Small bottle (33%) for clients with limited financial resources
-
Medium bottle (66%) for clients with moderate financial stability
-
Large bottle (100%) for financially stable clients
-
Pay It Forward (133%) for clients who are financially secure and wish to help others access care by contributing more
How it works:
Self-pay clients are invited to reflect on their:
-
income and household resources
-
bills and responsibilities
-
financial privilege/disadvantage
-
sense of stability/instability

From there, clients are invited to select the "bottle" that most reflects their reality.
This process relies on trust and honesty. Clients will never be asked to provide information to validate their choice - and we ask you to remember that your choice impacts both the accessibility of your therapy and the sustainability of our practice.

Limited availability:
To promote balance, each therapist offers a limited number of slots at the Tiny, Small, and Medium bottle levels. If these slots are full, new clients will be unable to start therapy at those levels and may only join at the Large or Pay It Forward levels until new slots open up. Needs will be assessed every 3 months and rates adjusted accordingly. These policies allow therapists to provide care to a diverse range of clients while maintaining quality and consistency of therapy.
Payment Policy
In order to provide services, we require a valid payment card saved in your file in our Electronic Health Records system. Payment is due at time of service.
Late cancellation is defined as cancelling with less than 24 hours notice or joining session 15 minutes or more past the start time of session. The first late cancellation within a calendar year is free, the second and third late cancellations incur a $50 fee, the fourth and fifth late cancellations incur a $75 fee, and any subsequent late cancellations incur a $100 fee. Any balances must be cleared at the beginning of the next session or earlier to avoid cancellation of services.

If your therapist needs to cancel session with less than 24 hours notice, your account will be credited an extra freebie late-cancellation.
